Notice from Jessica Van Buren

Shawano County Zoning Administrator / Real Property Lister:

Please check with the County to find out if you are required to obtain a shoreland permit from us before ANY ground disturbance or building is done.

We are having quite a few after-the-fact permits in regards to filling and grading (AKA ground disturbance) and building / impervious surface. Even when the Towns have their own or no zoning, a permit may still be required to be in compliance with our County Ordinance and State requirements.

This is a reminder as this isn’t anything new. It’s a lot cheaper to come in before hand than it is for a neighbor to turn someone in and have to redo everything. But on the good side of it, the updated Shoreland Ordinance will revise the conditional use to make it an over the counter permit so you will no longer have to wait 2 months to start the project.

Any questions, please let me know.
